Spinal Assessment Service
Consultant: Pamela McMahon, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist

Pamela McMahon is happy to review patients either with or without a GP referral for physiotherapy, back, neck, and spine issues.

Who is this suitable for?

• Patients over the age of 18
• Experiencing acute or chronic axial spine pain or radicular pain in the arms or legs

What does the service provide?

• A comprehensive clinical assessment and interpretation of any relevant imaging
• Ideally, patients will have an MRI of the affected area prior to the appointment, but this is not essential. If needed, we can arrange imaging following the initial assessment

Expected Outcomes for the Patient

• Referrals are triaged to ensure urgent cases are seen promptly
• A personalised management plan may include:
  • Referral for physiotherapy rehabilitation (available onsite)
  • Referral for injection therapy
  • Expedited referral to a Consultant Spine Surgeon in Galway or Dublin
  • Further investigations or onward referral, e.g, to a Consultant Neurologist

Pamela is a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist with 10 years of experience. Prior to joining Mayo Medical Centre, she spent six years working alongside Mr. Ashley Poynton, Consultant Spine Surgeon, at the Mater Private Hospital.
